{"id":7066,"date":"2021-05-20T09:14:51","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T07:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lanzigroup.com\/?p=7066"},"modified":"2025-01-03T16:00:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T15:00:35","slug":"protective-gloves-against-thermal-risks-4072004","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lanzigroup.com\/en\/protective-gloves-against-thermal-risks-4072004\/","title":{"rendered":"Protective gloves against heat: update on the EN 407:2020 standard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><em><em><em><em>In April 2020 the new EN&nbsp;407:2020 standard on protective gloves against thermal risks entered into force, updated from the former EN&nbsp;407:2004.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>EEN&nbsp;407 is the main standard for all safety gloves designed to provide protection against contact heat and flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>What\u2019s changed in the EN&nbsp;407:2020 standard?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Also applies to arm protection equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also applies to kitchen and household equipment (oven gloves, barbecue gloves, potholders)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must now have at least 10&nbsp;N tear resistance (level 1) to be certified to EN&nbsp;407:2020<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New minimum total length (different according to size) to be tested against \u201csmall molten metal projections\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduced new test methods to measure burning behaviour, resistance to contact heat, convective heat, and large quantities of molten metal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduced a specific pictogram for gloves with limited thermal protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>If the glove has not undergone a burning behaviour test or does not meet level 1, the new standard specifies use of the following pictogram. The tests to be performed for this standard are therefore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(A) Burning behaviour; (B) Contact heat; (C) Convective heat; (D) Radiant heat; (E) Small quantities of molten metal; (F) Large quantities of molten metal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"156\" height=\"166\" src=\"https:\/\/lanzigroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/en407-pittogramma.png\" alt=\"pittogramma EN407\" class=\"wp-image-3084\" style=\"width:160px;height:170px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>EN&nbsp;407:2020 is fully in force from 1 April 2020<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Protective gloves that are already certified to the EN&nbsp;407:2004 standard do not need to be immediately recertified with the new tests; the former standard will remain valid until the natural expiry date of the existing certification. However, new gloves introduced to the market must be certified to the new EN&nbsp;407:2020 standard, together with the new UNI EN&nbsp;ISO 21420 standard which defines the general requirements for protective gloves and the relevant test procedures for their design and manufacture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To receive the <strong>\u201cProtective gloves against thermal risks \u2013 EN&nbsp;407:2020\u201d
