People tend to think that orthopaedic insoles are exclusively reserved for people suffering from serious foot pathologies or orthopaedic deformities. In reality, the use of orthopaedic insoles is much broader and they can prove invaluable to anyone.
Just as no two snowflakes are identical, every foot has unique characteristics. Individual needs in terms of support, posture and weight distribution make orthopaedic insoles a fundamental tool not only for everyday comfort, but also for preventing incorrect weight distribution, which can cause pain and imbalance not only in the feet, but in the entire musculoskeletal system.
When safety footwear manufacturers launch a new model on the market, they are required to make sure it meets European regulations and technical safety standards.
However, not everyone knows that the insoles inside the footwear must also be certified. As a matter of fact, the technical file that accompanies each shoe specifies the insoles that are compatible with that particular model. Substituting the insole with one not listed by the manufacturer would invalidate the original certification of the footwear.

To provide a tangible answer to the orthopaedic needs of workers without compromising the certified safety of footwear, BASE PROTECTION, in collaboration with Molinari Srl, has developed an effective solution: the Secosol® orthopaedic insoles system. With this technology custom-made insoles can be integrated into safety footwear without invalidating the original certification of the product.
Secosol® insoles are designed and type approved pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and in keeping with the requirements set out in standard EN ISO 20345:22+A1:2024 and German regulation DGUV 112-191, an internationally recognised standard that defines the criteria for the inclusion of orthopaedic insoles in occupational or safety footwear while retaining EU certification.
Compatible models can be easily recognised in the official BASE PROTECTION catalogue thanks to the DGUV112-191 logo that appears next to each, certifying that a Secosol® orthopaedic insole can be used without affecting the safety performance of the footwear.
This collaboration constitutes a veritable step forward: for the first time, workers can customise their PPE with a custom-made insole approved directly by the footwear manufacturer, thereby doing away with risks and regulatory complications.
Furthermore, handcrafted construction based on an impression of the foot guarantees:
This solution puts the person at the centre, without compromising on protection, traceability and certified compliance.
How to request Secosol® orthopaedic insoles
Secosol® orthopaedic insoles are made from the impression of the individual foot, while also taking into account the specific characteristics of the chosen BASE footwear.
Secosol® orthopaedic insoles can be ordered directly from an authorised Secosol® centre while there is also the option of having a Secosol® technician visit the requesting company.
In the former case, in order to obtain shoes with Secosol® orthopaedic insoles, a worker must ask their doctor for a prescription for orthopaedic insoles. Once they have the prescription, they can go to an authorised Secosol® centre, where impressions of their feet will be taken. Once made, the customised insoles will be perfectly compatible with the chosen BASE model, without compromising the original certification.
If a worker does not have a medical prescription, they can also go directly to a Secosol® centre to have their feet measured. However, a medical prescription is always required in order to proceed with the construction of a Secosol® orthopaedic insole.
In the latter case, a direct visit to the requesting company may be arranged. A Secosol® specialist technician will take foot impressions of the workers who already have a medical prescription. The technician may also carry out a preliminary scan on other employees who complain of discomfort or problems with their feet, and may provide advice on contacting their GP, the company doctor or a specialist for a consultation and subsequent prescription.
Accordingly, in a context where safety in the workplace must go hand in hand with individual wellbeing, Secosol® orthopaedic insoles provide a certified, customised solution that is compatible with Base Protection safety footwear. This is an additional guarantee for the workers and a concrete opportunity for companies that care about the health of their employees.i.
